Firewood for the winter

What exactly is a cord of firewood?

All businesses use jargon – a sort of private language that insiders understand. It’s easy to assume the whole world does too – and that often isn’t the case. This struck home when we are asked this question by homeowners wanting to assess the size of the firewood for sale order they need to place. So, here goes…a cord of wood is simply a tightly packed pile with dimensions of four foot by four foot by eight foot.

How many you’ll need to see you through the winter depends on the size of your home and how well insulated it is against a Coloradan freeze. Add to that the vagaries of different wood-burning stoves and fireplaces!
